About Suzy Mandel-Canter
Los Angeles artist Suzy Mandel Canter, aka Suzy Mandel, originally from New York is an illustrator with children book publications through Little Brown and Co., Warner Juvenile Books, and Viking publishers.
Suzy was commissioned to paint a mural is at the Anchorage Imaginarium Children's Science Museum in Anchorage, Alaska. Her children's book illustration from Dr. Cat is part of the permanent collection in the Zimmerlli Children's Museum. She has also successfully produced an impressive array of artistic items for the mass market greeting cards, coloring books and stickers, as well as calendars.
Suzy was a glass artist as well. Her glass model sculptures were shown in Soho in the 1980's and her glass jewelry was exhibited at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC as she was part of the East Village Designers Group.
During the 1990's she focused on new media and animation while raising her two sons. While living in Hawaii Suzy studied at Pacific New Media, at the University of Hawaii. Shortly after taking classes in new media; she became an assistant teacher herself teaching adobe software.
During that same period of time, Suzy also created vinyl sculptures used in set design for Betty and Fritz for 'Dances We Dance' a Modern Dance Company where Suzy also studied modern dance. Suzy has been a dancer all her life. The performances where the sculptures were used were held at various museums in Hawaii. Her vinyl sculptures are part of the permanent collection of this dance company.
In 2005, Suzy went back to school at The Academy of Entertainment and Technology in Santa Monica College where she recieved certification in Interactive Design. Her passion for motion and design drove her creatively to make several short motion graphics movies. Ask her to see some of them. Pretty cool stuff.
In 2008, Suzy was the 29th Bronze medal winner of the 2008 Telly Awards for Documentary Film and Video in the category of History and Biography for the piece she created and produced about her father, Saul Mandel -50 Years of Advertising Art. Check it out! https://vimeo.com/177457329
